STRICTLY COME DANCING

Before I start my series on woman in ministry where I will be interviewing a few precious anointed woman of God, I thought I would tell you what my Fred and I have been up to.
For along time now we have been discussing our marriage and marriage in general, what we see works and unfortunately what we see that doesn’t work. We are firm believers of date nights and family days and doing things as families, however we felt that we had fallen into that old married couple syndrome where we do live and not live life.
We get up, chat a while bath get dressed, take the kids to school, go to work, come home cook dinner, go to church…. But us what are we doing that makes us laugh, that connects our soul to each other?
Date night is one night where we connect on a social base either on our own or with another couple and don’t get me wrong here I love them but have felt we are doing same old same old dinner or movie then home.
So as you all now I am starting to work for a company that works with the holistic approach to wellness. One of the ladies told me that she and her husband have joined a social dance group…. This got me thinking why cant we do that we think we dance okay… and what a wonderful place to meet new people, Fred and I love to encourage people in their marriages and what a better field then where married couples go dancing.
As you all might know by now I love to dress up! Years ago I did ballet and my teacher always wore this beautiful black wrap dress that skimmed over her body at the top and then flared to just on her knee, I loved her look with her hair tied back in a French roll and just looked beautiful down to the hoop earring she wore, a few years ago I found a dress like that and I just had to buy it, now that I have lost some weight I am able to wear it, and last night was the perfect night to wear it with the hair in a French roll and my hooped earrings and there you have it I was ready for strictly come dancing!
When we arrived it did look very social, but the moment the music started and the instructor and his wife opened the dance floor I said to Fred this is not social this is a full on ballroom class, and you guessed it that is what it is, this is a Christian man that felt God has told him to give up one evening a week to teach people to dance at a minimal rate to what the other studios charge so all you give is a donation (God is so Good). Fred and I have always thought we where fairly good dancers well last night we learnt that we suck at dancing, we have learnt bad habits and that to the world it looks like we can dance right but in reality we are only playing the fool, something a lot of us do in every area of our lives but that is a whole different blog.
Last night we where taught the basic of a good waltz and the quick step. Its so elegant and graceful, I felt like a princess, except when we where falling over our feet and laughing uncontrollably at each other, but we came away relaxed and knowing that this is one of those things we are going to pursue and one day we will be able to elegantly waltz and quick step and foxtrot, tango etc…. when last have you danced?
Love always me
P.S. tomorrow I start my series on interviews with mighty woman of God please tune in its going to be a real treat!

ARISE TEACHER OF THE WORD!
Sunday night was a historical night for me as the vow made was laid aside, my darling man stood there at first hesitant but once the anointing started to flow, WOW WOW WOW, God is amazing. I am so proud I am bursting at the seams, I could not get my smile any wider if I tried, I could not amen enough as he preached, it just looked so right this man of mine in front of a pulpit preaching and teaching because he is a teacher of the word!
There was no nervous fidgeting or stumbling just a man so enjoying teaching. He spoke on a spirit of excellence and did a diagram with the people; I am so in awe of what came out of his mouth, I give God all the glory! I have a peace in my heart that no matter where God takes us He will sustain us for His Glory. I know this is the beginning of great things as doors open for us to minister together, it was so much fun to tandem preach, he was so wonderful when he was finished he asked me to come and speak on what we had shared at home once he had finished reading me his sermon I felt to add something and he would not hear of himself taking credit for something God had shown me this man is so humble! I just love him so dearly.
I feel as if we have won a great victory!!!!!!!

TIME OUT
Do you have regular times away with your husband?
As you all know this is a second marriage for me and an only marriage for Fred. We have had children from the beginning so it was vital from the beginning for us to have regular times away as it was very important to the foundation of our marriage. We do believe that we never stop dating even though we are married. So many times married people get into a rut, they think they should stop courting and making time for each other. Fred and I have a date night on a Friday night and get quiet grumpy if something does come up and we cant go but then we just reschedule like this Friday we are having a cocktail evening for the ladies group in our church. I will only be home at 9 so we are going to have a DVD night and just relax even if the children are there but come next Friday there is no stopping us from doing what we enjoy best time alone together.. We also try once a term to go away for a weekend or even longer the longer one we have not managed recently as live has just been too hectic. Our love life is very important and as Fred says it starts at the breakfast table and carries on until its just the two of us alone in our room or where ever ;)
* Have a hard time with leaving the kids behind?
In the beginning because they where small but after about 2 months they where fine and so was I, we laughed the other day when Jen was home she said now that she is in a relationship and a baby on the way she can understand all the fuss about the date night and how important it is to have a happy home! I asked her why she said that her words made sense to me “mom when you and dad have not had your date night you both are so grumpy” as much as its hard to leave the kids behind it is important to the well being of ones home. Children recover much quicker then we do so stop stressing they will be fine with a sitter or friends which I think is better for them to be with your friends.
* Learned this lesson the hard way?
Yes I did and that is why when Fred and I got married we chose not to make the same mistakes I did in my first marriage, speaking to my ex husbands wife the other night (we are friends and I love her) she said that is one thing that they have learnt from Fred and I and that is our date nights where its just us and the whole world can dissolve around us we wouldn’t even notice.
* Don't understand what all the fuss is about?
The person that doesn’t understand should go and read what my friend Deanna said on her blog about putting husbands first read here:
All I can say its important to connect with your man outside the daily life you live… its important the best thing you can do for your children is love your husband and DATE HIM!!!!!!!

MY MAN
Yet he is very quite and I am not sure if it’s his height that makes him look dignified or what but everyone that knows Fred knows that when he speaks we take note of what he is saying, our home group is very loud and we have quite a number of mature people in our home group and a large number of woman that are very verbal about our opinions no matter what the topic and I must admit I feel sorry for our home group leader at times because we will not back down from what we believe God saying to us at any given time.
Last night as we discussed quite a weighty issue we girls where at it and Fred in his cool calm collective self said “can I say something?”
It was as if we were one person speaking all 25 of us shouted keep quite Fred wants to say something, if it had not been so serious it would have been hilarious, so today I just want to honor this wonderful man of mine that stands firmly planted in Gods word, and he has to stay firmly plant at 6’5, thank you my darling for been the strength and wisdom in my life and in our family. You are indeed a man after God’s heart; we will continue to follow you as you follow Christ. Love you “my bekkie” (translated for all my USA dollas…. “My mouth to kiss” in other words)
